TAKE A STAND...

...FOR FEMALE SEXUALITY

Stop sexual shame.

Embarrassment.

Fear.

Silence.

Around the world, female sexuality gets a bad rap. Whether it's sexual health education, the threat and violence of rape or sexual assault, or permission for sexual pleasure, cultural values reduce the female sexual experience to one of judgment, fear, or silence. Why is this a problem? Because it ignores a vibrant part of half of humanity, makes violence against women acceptable and commonplace, and demonizes something that is natural and loving. Each of us is affected by this, even men. Consider your mother, your daughter, your wife; when a vital part of her is silenced or stigmatized, her life isn't whole and we suffer a loss to society. But you can be part of the solution.

Take a Stand.

Consider seriously what it means to you to take a stand for female sexuality...then do something about it. Think about various realms to do this in, including physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual. Create a New Post below, and explain how you will take a stand. Here are suggestions, but add your own personal touch, and go do it proudly! Create a new community around your stand!

I will take a stand for female sexuality and...

  • ...never fake an orgasm again.
  • ...call out my male (or female) friends when they call a woman a slut.
  • ...always use a condom or protection unless we have both been tested for STDs/STIs.
  • ...post 3 sex-positive articles to my Facebook page.
  • ...not use the word "fag" to demean a man (and not let my friends use it either).
  • ...donate money to support L. International, an organization dedicated to reducing HIV through making safe sex accessible to women and girls around the world.
  • ...organize a Vagina Monologues fundraising performance in my community.
  • ...look at my genitals in a mirror and tell myself I'm beautiful.
  • ...reach out to one person I trust and share my story about being sexually abused, and stop blaming myself.
  • ...stop judging other women for being sexual under their own terms.
  • ...respect any woman I have sex with, even if I just met her.

Sexual shame lives in the shadows of silence.

Speak. Share. We can make a difference.

TAKE A STAND.
